This is a clip of an actual airing of The Late Show on WCBS-TV Channel 2 in New York in 1987. Some neat bumpers, promo’s, commercials, etc. Also the classic Late Show opening and a few minutes of the feature film that night, “Fantastic Invasion Of Planet Earth”. This is NOT a re-creation, this is a snippet of the actual broadcast. No editing done at all to this clip. Enjoy!

Be sure to take part in our first ever poll which is posted below. What was your favorite local indie station from back in the day in the NY Metro Area? Vote, sound off and let us know! Thanks!

Make no mistake about it, back in the day, WOR-TV channel 9 was the undisputed king of local sports coverage. Sure the local network affiliates would give you NFL Football every week or Major League Baseball, every week, etc., but on a daily basis and year round, nobody beat channel 9. The two “kings” of local independent television, channel 5 and channel 11 did not offer much in the way of sports. Channel 5 would basically give you Jets pre-season football games and that was it and channel 11 would give you Yankees baseball and Giants pre-season football but not much more. Tune in to channel 9 throughout the years and you would get the following: Mets baseball, Rangers and Islanders hockey, Knicks and Nets basketball, college football and basketball, Canadian football, the World Football League, the NHL Primetime Game Of The Week, boxing, horse racing, wrestling, roller derby and so much more. Though WOR is amusingly remembered for telecasting sports on a tape-delayed basis from time to time, the truth is that no station offered as much live sports coverage as 9 did. If you grew up back in the day and you were a sports fan, chances are your television dial spent a lot of time tuned to channel 9. Here is a TV Guide ad with WOR-TV rightfully advertising their unmatched sports coverage. What are your thoughts/memories?

This blog is a labor of love and it does take time and effort to create it and keep it updated. If you want to link to this blog or link it to another site or “borrow” portions of it, please have the courtesy to ask/make a request first. I’d really appreciate it. The video music compilations and NY Metro Area Re-creations contained in this blog are also my own creations so, again, I’d appreciate it if you would make a request first before using them. Also, the TV Guide ads posted here are from my own personal collection of old TV Guides which I’ve acquired at some expense so if you wish to “borrow” those a request first is, again, much appreciated. Requests can be sent to corr28@optonline.net

Thank you all very much for your understanding, courtesy and cooperation.

And one more. To date, this one is my favorite.

Another re-creation.

One of the things I like to do is try and re-create what it was like watching TV back in the day. I take period commercials, bumpers, ID’s, promo’s, PSA’s, etc and combine them with a movie or TV show to try and rekindle the feeling of watching TV back in the day. Here is an example of one of them. Let me know what you think.

A little video I put together celebrating the great music heard so often and remembered so fondly in those wonderful Our Gang/Little Rascals shorts. The music was lovingly re-created by the Beau Hunks using period instruments for authenticity. Enjoy!

About two years ago, I started a blog over at blogspot. com called NY TV Movie Memories. After a while, it became more and more difficult to update the blog. This was due to a couple of reasons, mostly a lack of time. Recently, I had the desire to update it and keep it going but it was so long since the last update, I had forgotten my username and password. So, I decided to start a new blog, well, a new/old blog here at WordPress. Basically the same objective as the old blog, I just changed the name a little bit and then transferred everything from the old blog over here to the new one. For those who followed the old blog and have found this new one, you will be familiar with the older articles/posts but now you will find some new, fun stuff added. For those just discovering this blog for the first time, welcome aboard! I feel a renewed energy and have been able to better manage my time so I will be updating the blog as much as humanly possible. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts and suggestions and let’s have a good time as we celebrate TV the way it used to be. Thank you and enjoy!
